If it's that easy with a spring puller, why are the guys in the videos messing about with washers and ratchet straps.

A lot of it is technique

And they won't have a spring puller :lol:

You will be surprised how easy it is with the right tool

In the Normski video, the spring is measured as needing to be stretched by 32mm to fit it. Later, the spring can be seen with one end held in a vice while a screwdriver is used double handed to try and stretch the spring. He can only get a few mm of movement, no where near the 32mm required.

All other comments viewed elsewhere use the washer method, inc. for the RT style double spring set up with connecting plates.

Maybe it's a little to hard for them David.Some of us are stronger than others :mrgreen: .
As I've said earlier,I will use the washers for spacing,if they go in easy enough,or I'll put a bit of effort in and use the spring puller :thumb:

"This gadget that I made makes it very easy to take the stand off. With the bike on side stand the pegs are pushed into the spring hanger plates. Then the centre-stand is pushed down towards the ground to extend the spring. While its in that position the yellow plated nut is spun down to take up the slack. Then lift the stand and take the whole lot off the hanger pegs on stand and frame. Leave it at that tension till its time to refit."

Bet you are glad you haven't a 2006 to 2009 RT. These are known for bad paintwork on metal surfaces. My wheels are terrible and the places on the frame ain't much better. Am going to sort the wheels out but sod the frame, there is just too much to remove to get it down where i can clean and respray it. I cleaned up my center stand without removing it. The springs on my bike have a rubber sleeve covering them. I used a Dremel with a wire wool disc and a sanding disc on the larger areas, painted it with a rust converter, rubbed it down again, and then sprayed 3 coats of Hammerite smooth satin black. Now looks much better than the scab looking piece of metal. Sidestand got the same procedure.

Centre stands do get hammered with gravel rash, (particularly the crossbar between the two vertical legs), resulting in corrosion. Not wishing to remove the stand, I rubbed down the horizontal tube, brush painted with Hammerite Smooth then fitted a length of plastic tubing for future protection.

On this RT with a mud flap attached to the sump, the centre stand is in good condition.

Removed the centre stand today and stripped it ready for powder coating!

I think I will be making one of these! those bloody springs are strong :shock:

That's what I used and wasn't defeated! I won and got the springs off but it was hard work

I'm looking at the easy route and working smarter not harder 😉
