Sorry if this has been asked before (couldn't find much on a search).
Now we've left the EU what are the requirements for having an IDP when riding or driving abroad?
Looked on the gov.uk website and it mentions not necessary if you have a UK photo licence but I've just booked trips to France (bike ) and then Italy (hire car), what confused me was that the car hire company states customers must present a IDP.
Cheers

£5.50 or summit over the counter at the post office(according to the gov site)Surly you'll just get one and be done with it.

Looks like the rules are different for a hire car and you need an IDP, https://iheartitaly.co/do-you-need-an-i ... -in-italy/

I don't mind getting one if it's necessary but not just for the sake of it.burridge01 wrote: ↑Mon Feb 27, 2023 2:01 pm £5.50 or summit over the counter at the post office(according to the gov site)Surly you'll just get one and be done with it.

Re: International Driving Permit
Went down to the post office and got an IDP, looks similar to a 1940's identity document. A piece of grey card with rubber stamps all over it and hand written entries.

Can't beat a video, it confirms that hire/rental companies require you to have one.

The last time i bought a IDP or as it was a IDL was when you had to stop at every boarder. show papers and exchange monies. Buy a pack of 20 fags for less than a pound and a guarantee of getting food poising in Spain.
Trust me I am a retired Doctor and lecturer at Oxford University of Structural and Mechanical/Electrical engineering.
