Handle Bar Risers
Handle Bar Risers
Has anyone had any experience with the Ilum Works handle bar risers on the 2014? They look a little odd but they are the only risers that I can find. Are there alternatives???
Thanks,
Bud

Re: Handle Bar Risers
Looking at the Ilium Works website, from a design/engineering point of view, I'd be very surprised if any alternatives were available.

Re: Handle Bar Risers
I really liked my risers on the 2012 RT from Ilium Works. They looked like they were meant for the bike and not an add on. Im not smart enough to imagine any other way except what Ilium works has done but it looks a little odd to me. I feel like I need the extra riser so I guess Im just going to have to suck it up and and get the Ilium Works units.

Let us know how you get on. They do say its not easy to fit but all original cables/lines still fit.

Re: Handle Bar Risers
Just watched the video of the fitting of the "bar risers" on the Ilum Works site and to be honest if you had the time, the inclination you would undoubtedly need those specialist tools. I did think the finished article looked pretty good. But for me to go faffing about with a new bike and then find I have no play in the cables because Herr BMW is being super efficient and cutting cable precise, err no thanks.
Bytheway I have had risers on my last three bikes and they were great, but will leave "Arty" alone for the time being.
Happy New Year one and all

I like the look of those risers, and i'd buy them if i didn't also need the special tool that costs an extra $100.....bugger..

Re: Handle Bar Risers
I understand that Iluim Works will send you the special tool and refund it when you send it back. That may only be in the US but on other forums that is the general consensus. I have purchased stuff from them in the past and they are good to work with.

Interesting...
I don't have a problem with the bar height - but I wish the foot-pegs were just a little lower.
I thought about the Wunderlich lowering kit but have heard that it won't work on a 2014 bike with the gear-shift pro.
Anybody any experience?

Re: Handle Bar Risers
Got my Ilium risers last week, so i fitted them last weekend. I didn't bother with the special tool, but the i found the fitting quite easy.
I just used SWMBO's Hair Drier to warm the bar sleeves, and the bars knocked out quite easily, and the whole job took me about 30mins to complete.
After a quick ride, i'm very happy with ergo's now, as the bar position feels more like my previous GSA, which i did miss a bit.

I also used a heat gun with adjustable settings. even with mild temperature, I was able to tap the handle bar out from the casting. Fitting of the Illium risers was a simple task. Makes a world of difference to the riding position.

Re: Handle Bar Risers
Asanidler, I would like to get the Ilium Bar Risers on my 15 RT. I'm curious how much of a difference they would make to my riding posture. 1'5" higher and back doesn't seem like much, but it sounds like it did for you. I don't have a heat gun but was probably going to rent the tool. Can you provide any other information in regards to your riding posture and installation?
Thanks
Thanks
