Failing battery?
Went for a ride at the weekend and upon filling up I hit the starter for the bike to just turn a little then stop! which then turned the clocks off and totally reset them to factory settings!
I have had the bike do this two or three times now in the past two years and on occasions it sort of thinks about starting before turning over properly and firing up ie it will turn stop then turn over properly
Is this a sign that the battery is heading to be on the way out?

Re: Failing battery?
I had a similar experience so just bought a new battery.
Sod’s Law says it’ll otherwise let you down when you’re miles from anywhere, in a bad phone area, and no doubt it’ll be pouring with rain…
You could check the terminal connections are tight.

Re: Failing battery?
I have been caught out before and I don't think I like the idea of that again!
I think I will just bite the bullet and buy one

Re: Failing battery?
well they was already on offer with £30 off but the trade card cancels out offers so you have to be careful
They was at £77 so an extra £7 saving on top of the £30 that was already off
Thats still a saving to us Yorkshiremen

K'in ell, just done exactly the same. Did yours have a date sheet attached/sticker.Wasn't overly happy there was no indication of how old the battery was.Last time i got 1 for me GSX1250 it had a sticker telling me how old it was, nothing on this battery that I picked up yesterday.

I went to one halfords and they had the ytx16-bs in which had a date code on it of two years ago! I wasn't keen on getting that
Another halfords had the ytx16 (no BS) but same as you! no date code on it
Upon looking further into it the BS stands for Bottle Supplied which means they are activated by the dealer ie halfords upon seeing that I opted for the factory activated one as I don't trust 99% of halfords employees with a pair of safety scissors!
The fist thing I did was check the voltage on the battery and it was showing 12.74 which is a good battery to me
Top Tip: Remove the square threaded nuts from the OE battery and file them down until they fit the new one. The supplied new ones are a lot smaller and a pig to get the bolts to them of you have more than just the battery leads attached

Re: Failing battery?
Was easier to open the battery hole with a file, nut sits in there nice n snug.
That was a top tip as well, all my stuff comfortably connected.
Could of reminded me to reset the throttle, took me half hour for the penny to drop

Re: Failing battery?
When i got the battery in,and you have to remember its got the PowerCommander so I have to make sure the leads are the right way round or nothing happens. So there I am cranking the bike but its not firing, battery out change leads from + to - and still nothing, change leads back and still no firing. Then I remember the thing about turning ignition on,open throttle, close, open, close, turn of ignition then back on,press the tit and bingo,BANG and its running.
Sat ticking over nicely, quick walk round making sure it's mot ready, great stuff
