Anyone else?

Post by Sacowan »

Riding down the road, minding my own business, and the windshield tipped back. Only 1/2 mile from home, so I finished my trek.

Get in the garage to find the two pins or bolts that hold the bottom of the windshield to the up/down frame are gone!

Now, I am on a mission to replace them. Local shop’s closed today. I found an on line microfiche, but the parts are not listed. Anyone help me?

BMW do sell them individually, mine are inbound as I found one missing last week. Ordered a couple and the clips for around £30 delivered. I couldn’t find anything online that matched. Sorry I don’t know the part numbers yet. The other one was missing its clip and was just about to disappear. I managed to make a temporary repair by cutting down a footrest pin that was close to the same diameter. As far as I can tell they start to bind up then work out as they twist each time you raise the screen. I have greased them and over the weekend the screen was nice and solid.

This is what works on my 21 RT. I can't remember where I got them, Amazon, Grainger, McMaster Carr, Fasenal, Lowes, etc..

I have just ordered some pins in two different sizes with split pins instead of clips

I found bmw parts. Typically priced bmw parts!

Bobs bmw in Maryland.

Talked to one of the parts guys (drew, I think). The shipping price automatically set on the website was crazy. He made it right.

I've just had the same on my 2020 R1250RT.

I was washing the bike and lifted the screen to the highest position to clean the underside. Noticed that the lower left pivot pin was missing completely. The e-clip was missing from the lower right side pin, but the pin was still in position.

I can only assume that the e-clip has dropped off the left pin and allowed the pin to vibrate loose. Presumably, the right side pin would have followed if I hadn't spotted it and fitted a new e-clip.

Interestingly, both upper pins were still in position and both e-clips were present.

Replacement lower pin is on order, expected next week. I'll remove all 4 pins and clean/lubricate them on reassembly. According to the parts microfiche, the upper and lower pins are slightly different sizes. That's not a sensible engineering approach.
