Buy a smaller phone
That's what I ended up doing. Got a used Pixel 5 and buy a cheap pre-paid data plan if I think I'll want data during a trip. Otherwise I just update it at home/hotel using wi-fi or my regular phone's hotspot.

I had just bought a new phone, so used my old one, a Galaxy A5. No sim card but works fine as .one as I update it via WiFi.
