R1250RT - check your screens

Post by beemerboy9 »

I was bemoaning my fate to a fellow owner of a '20 RT today and he has had the same problem.

I removed the screen for a belated clean and then removed the cover beneath, to reveal that one of the lower hinge pins and its circlip had gone walkabout and the other had lost its retaining circlip was was half-way out. If both let go, then the screen can tip back and hit the rider in the face.

BMW sell the pins and circlips separately (at great expense, naturally), but you definitely don't want the full force of the wind to be supported by only one arm.

Anyone else come across this already.?

Just checked a 2020 and 2019 RT, all fixings ok, and the pins and circles all have the blue sealing paint on them.

Just checked mine, it is the same. One pin missing and the other has the clip missing. On the phone tomorrow I guess. Meanwhile will have to find a couple of bolts to hold it temporarily. Thanks for the heads up. Did they have these in stock and just in case do you have the part numbers?

Looked at mine today,. whilst the screen was off for a "de-bug". All good, I'm pleased to say. The pins look to be simple enough to fabricate on my old lathe, so if either does go missing, I will just make a few in shiny stainless steel, as replacements. I'm not paying BMW prices!
