Final update. I got the bike back from BMW in April and they replaced the complete engine, rear wheel and the shaft drive casing. After removing the shaft drive they found that the drive itself was seized so they replaced that as well. They shared the parts invoices (engine was 8,000 GBP ex Vat and labour)

Bike has now done another 2k miles with no issues although the engine isn't quite as smooth as the original.

Hi

Takes the engines around 3k to really smooth out. After 10k they are great. I had a 17 model that corroded at the points where the coating was removed during manufacture, so where they had machined the joining faces etc. that all happened within 12 months of the bike being new. the replacements were better but still started showing the paint lifting by the time I parted ex it January this year for a new one. My bikes have been ACF50 every year by AllYear Biker. I think it helped but didn't stop the issue. Will see how this one get on ;)

Thanks for replying and sorry I'm so slow to respond. I thought I had notifications set but I didn't!

The engine has done 4k miles now and is much better, very similar to old one. I'm hoping the corrosion doesnt reoccur but time will tell.
