Hand grip aftermarket

I've been getting a painful callus at the base of my pinky from the throttle grip. I'm thinking of getting a thicker and softer replacement. Anybody know how hard it is to remove and replace the original hand grip, or if there is an aftermarket product that will fit over the existing grip? Thanks.

I have used foam rubber slip-on grips for all my bikes for years. They usually cost about $8 or $10 and slip on easily with a little liquid dish soap.

Funny enough I put my grip puppies on yesterday.As Tenequip says,a little soapy water and they slip over the original grips no problem

Just measure and cut to the required length, soap em up and slide them on.

Every bike ive owned except an R80Rt( they had oblong grips) has had grip puppies fitted. If you have heated grips with GP slipped over them you will still feel the heat.

had them on my FJR for year - cured some high frequency vibrations nicely. putting them on he new 1250RT. they really do help reduce hand and finger fatigue on longer rides. also IMHO improve throttle control.

Thanks, all. Are the regular Grip Pups OK for the RT, or will I need the "Big Paws"? Also, since the OD on the Beemer grips taper down towards the inside, will the GP's conform tightly, or do they gather a bit at the smaller end?

Just buy the normal puppies and they fit perfectly, as long as you measure and cut them correctly. I never went tight to the wheel,left a couple of mm gap and they look spot on.One thing I will say,cutting them with a Stanley blade pulled the sponge a bit,if I did them again I would get a long sharp blade and cut like a guillotine to give a sharper finish

Bought some generic foam overgrips from Amazon. Used compressed air and small piece of tubing. No soap needed.

Just installed the regular sized Grip Pup on the throttle and it feels great. It also fits tightly over the tapered thinner OD of the inboard side of the grip. Had to use WD 40 since the soapy water didn't cut it. Strange how the minimally greater circumference makes the throttle more sensitive and jumpy, which I suppose I'll get used to before long. Goodbye calluses, and I'm sure it will make longer trips less tiring and crampy for my right hand. Thanks for all the input.

Your hands will get used to them quickly. At the moment you are just feeling hand and finger muscle memory.

Correction to my earlier post: Noticed that everyone is using soapy water when they install the grips, I use the liquid soak straight up no water added. Never had any trouble getting the grips with the liquid soap straight up.

There was a post on this site about a Chinese made ‘old RT’ type grip that really caught my fancy, so a I spoke to my specialist BMW mechie about it… pursed lips and an “Ooohh, be very careful” uttering quickly followed together with “they’re over a hundred quid if you get it wrong”
If he’s unhappy to do it then I certainly won’t… shame.
