Cardan check, circlips and software update
I’ve just spoken to BMW Bahnstormers at Alton regarding my footrest circlip replacement under warranty.
The Service Manager then advised me that my 2018 RT is due a Cardan resistance check under 37000 miles or a full shaft replacement over that mileage (I’m on 30k), together with a software update and of course the circlips.
This is the same as the GS that’s being rolled out to other models.

This "Cardan resistance check" and corresponding SW update is only for the 1250 shiftcam engines, and only for the GS/GSA and RTP motorcycles or am I wrong?

I don't think you can't find it there because it is not an actual recall like for the GS/GSA, but the BMW dealer does this SW update while they perform a regular service and has to be connected to the BMW computer anyway.

Re: Cardan check, circlips and software update
Sorry to have to disagree, using the link I’ve just performed the check on my reg no and this is what it says:
‘There is an open technical enhancement on this vehicle, please go here (link to dealerships) to request a convenient appointment for your vehicle, or contact your local centre for attention.
Enhancement codes 0033180000, 0033130000, 0046630000
These are the 3 items described in my initial post.
This is not a service issue for me because I don’t get my bike serviced at BMW dealerships, having spoken to the service dept the earliest I can get an appointment is 1/11.

Re: Cardan check, circlips and software update
You are right, but the recall I'm talking about is Recall code 0000232600, which is the big recall of all R1250GS/GSA/RTP (440.000 bikes in total), taking the bike in for a SW update which should protect the gearbox input shaft from breaking. This new software does not allow the engine revving above 6000 rpm when giving full throttle with the clutch pulled in.
My "normal" '20 R1250RT has also this new software from the end of June, the dealer installed it when they did perform the 20000km service, if I pull the clutch now it doesn't rev higher than 6000 rpm, but I don't know if the mechanic checked the drive shaft, like on the GS/GSA/RTP's.

I’m very happy to take your word on that one, not owning a GS/A or a 1250, nor being affluent enough to afford BMW dealer service prices.

My check threw up the same codes. I’ll be interested to see what they are if you manage to get yours done

Nothing outstanding on my 07. Sometimes older is best.

To doubly make sure i had my wife check my cardigan, tartan slipper and horn brier pipe. Leather patches on elbows needed at next service
