Upgrade from ST1300

Post by andydavis »

I just bought a 2009 on Saturday. The last two years I've taken my 2003 ST1300 ("La Azteca") on recorridos through Mexico (recommended). It was great and never complained, but was maybe a little heavy and low...I decided to upgrade. People all agree that R1200RT's are the best, but I'm not 100% convinced yet.

There's something you can help me out with. I've attached a photo of the left side dash/panel. Obviously, those holes were for radio presets or controls. I'm thinking that this bike never had a radio and that there must have been a coverplate. Is that wrong? Is there a plastic part? I'm sort of planning to fit a piece of 16 gauge aluminum, powdercoat it and stick it down with some glue...or is that a stupid idea? It seems that there's a lot of space on that side...is there a retrofit/aftermarket glove box for the left side?

I believe that it's Part# 46637686763 and ~$14 US. Should snap into place:
