Recall work
Talked to an ex BMW mechanic a couple of weeks ago & he said that BMW were doing a check on the crown wheel of the final drive & it would be prudent to have it checked. I agreed, so today I took a trip to my local dealer, Balderstones at Peterborough. Yes it was true that they were checking the crown wheel. He looked up my bike & discovered that it needed a software upgrade, I knew this as I service the bike myself, the drain hole drilling into the swing arm &
also replacement of footpeg pins.
All FOC, so booked in for the 29th November.

Re: Recall work
Interesting as I’ve had the recall letter for the foot pegs but no mention of checking the FD. How did you get them to do that?

Re: Recall work
After talking to the ex beemer mechanic, I just asked the service guy at the BMW shop if they were checking on the FD. He said yes & if found out of tolerance would be replaced. Thought it would be easier on my pocket for them to stump up the cost rather than me.
Never had any recall letters since I've had this RT.

Re: Recall work
Under 37000 miles it’s a check, over that mileage they automatically replace the shaft.
I have just over 31000 so far and as I have the shaft pulled out, checked, the and greased every year.
Now the question is, do I hang on (as I expect to hit the 37k after this years June trip) and go for new shaft free or hand it over to BMW ASAP?

Re: Recall work
Just received recall letter for the foot pegs, no mention of anything else.
Called dealer for appointment, Mon 4 Dec, informed me that there are three recalls, check foot pegs, final drive and software update.
My 14 plate RT with 74k miles runs fine, we shall find out on Monday 4th.

All footrest pins replaced.
Software update completed.

Smiley, if you’re going to quote me then at least quote me accurately.
If you look at my post you see this:
“ Under 37000 miles it’s a check, over that mileage they automatically replace the shaft.”
There’s no mention of ‘only replacing the shaft after 37000 miles’ Obviously if your shaft/crownwheel needs replacing after the check then they’ll do so FOC as part of this ‘enhancement’

Re: Recall work
I have checked the recall website and there are no recall on my R1250RT
I have looked at the underside of the swing arm and there is no drain plug.
Has anyone with a 1250 had it done to there RT ??

It’s been phrased as an ‘enhancement’ not a recall, it was available to check on here -
https://www.bmw-motorrad.co.uk/en/servi ... ookup.html
but they’ve changed that now.
However, by entering your reg no or VIN in here you will obtain details of the enhancements due on your machine, if any -

Re: Recall work
Took my 2014 rt with 55300 miles on the clock, for the footrests recall.
they told me that it also required the final drive needed doing FOC,
No idea if this was carried out no mention of it on the work sheet.
they did not do the computer upgrade though just wondering if that
should have been carried out.????
