Plastic valve cover guards

2009 with plastic valve cover guards. Put them back on? Or put them in a drawer somewhere?
1) They don't do much
2) ...but maybe they do a little?
3) Have to remove the side plastic to remove them in order to access the valves and upper spark plug.
4) ...how often do I have to access the valves and primary spark plug?

I'm tempted to leave them off???

It looks like they have prevented a fair bit of damage to the valve covers. I would keep them.

Looking at the marks on the covers they are doing their job and I would definitely leave them on.

I'd give them a quick run over with some very fine Wet & Dry to remove the worst of any scratches, then a quick spray with some matt black paint. They'll look almost as good new and if you still don't fancy putting them you'll get the cost of that small bit of restoration work back ten fold if you sell them because they'll look good.

I've got X-Head Cylinder Head Guards on my bike which whilst offering a little more coverage are similar plasticy type things. I figure if the bike goes down the road at speed there's going to be a lot of other damage and a scuffed rocker cover will be the least of my worries; BUT a low speed put down or drop when manoeuvring, well, the plastic covers will stop the worst of it.

Personally, I'd clean them up and put them back on. Owt's better than nowt.

I replaced mine on even though i have engine bars. They cover the gravel rash on the heads that the original one didn't protect
