Goretex cleaning

Anyone else had experience cleaning Goretex textile bike gear and then re-weatherproofing with a specialist spray?

I’ve used Nikwax on walking gear, where you put it in a washing machine and then tumble dry to trigger the waterproofing, but never tried the after wash sprays.

I’ve had my Dainese jacket for 20yrs and I’ve decided to treat it to its first proper wash. It’s had the odd wipe down to remove various bird/insect strikes but never a full on soak, apart from the UK weather!

I have Rukka gear and they recommend STORM products, I have washed a jacket or 2 with it and found it to be very efficient and easy to use. The big advantage with the STORM product is that you put the wash liquid in the detergent drawer and the proofer liquid in the softner drawer and then wash on a low temperature and it's all done in one wash. The kit costs about £20 and I believe you should get 3 maybe 4 washes per kit.

Yes, washed my Richa Atlantic Jacket & Trousers after I lived in them for virtually 48hrs in plus 25C temperatures for a couple of days last summer. I used the standard Nikwax Technical Wash, then the reproof stuff I uses for my cycling & mountaineering kit. All worked fine. Apart from the obvious of taking out any armour, the only other comment I'd is that no matter how much you spin them, motorcycle kit holds a lot of water when you taken them out of the machine. A towel on the floor and then wrap around them before you carry them outside to dry is recommended.
