Intermittent TPMS

Post by Stu »

Just recently I have noticed that the rear TPMS is not registering a pressure

I don't get a low pressure warning just no reading

Is this a sign of a failing sensor or flat batteries?

Easy job! Did mine with a craft knife and hot glue gun a couple of years ago. 👍
The GS 'is' the better bike :-)

Don't know if it's different on the later bikes, but on my 2013 if it was the battery you get the dreaded yellow triangle plus 'RDC' message briefly on start up. If it's just -- or --/-- with the yellow triangle, then chances are it's dodgy sensor(s).

AliExpress worth a look. £10 for a pair of new ones. I was tempted for my 2013 RT if warranty hadn't covered and replaced with a 'BMW' one @ £104 + VAT. Same part #. Just had a footpeg lowering kit from them and looks just as good as the Wunderlich ones and less than a quarter of the price. Pays your money..........!

@k9doc I get no warnings on the dash just the two lines where the pressure should be as if the sensor has not started to work like when you first turn it on before you ride

If you do a search on the other forums there is a KTM part number that is the same thing as BMW but was only $65 when I got one vs $200+ for BMW.

Yes found all that

Also found a place here in the UK supplying them for £60 each

Today it totally scrapped itself and showed an error then started to work again!

took the decision to buy two new TPMS

Still waiting for one to be delivered but the faulty one has been replaced and is working fine now

I went for the Schrader 3142M which is the ones for the KTM the BMW one is the 3141M but they are all the same

You also have to replace the bolts too

That’s useful to know Stu, so you didn’t bother messing with batteries then ?, where may I ask did you purchase the tpms from ?. I suspect my 2019’s will need replacing next year.
Also did you go to a tyre dealer to have th tyres removed , go home to fit the sensors then go back for refitting ?.

I found them on ebay I ordered two but only have one at the min as the other one is on back order!

No I removed the tyre and fitted it sensor then refitted the tyre then balanced the wheel
