No anti-drain back valve !

Ya gotta be kidding me...after doing much research on oil filters for my '23 RT, I purchased 2 Mahle OC 619s, "OEM" quality made in Austria oil filters from Amazon.
How the hell is this filter suppose to be the correct replacement for the BMW filters, when there is no anti-drain valve for a side mounted installation ?
Someone want to clue me in ?!

Has the Mahle filter been compared with a BMW OEM filter (made by Mahle).

Not yet, I do not have one loose to compare with.

If it gives you any confidence to use the Mahle filter, I have it in writing from BMW Insured Warranty that both Mahle & Hiflo oil filters are acceptable to use as they are both manufactured to the BMW OEM specifications. I've used both on my 2012 Camhead, supplied by myself and fitted by a BMW dealer.

BMW oil filter is a Mahle filter just rebranded for BMW.
I've only used HI-Flow for years. I used to use K&N but the last 2 developed a leak just under the tightening nut.

Okay, I have since learned the oil filter doesn't need a backflow check valve, reason being, the oil level in the sump reservoir is higher than the bottom of the filter thus preventing oil from running out of the filter back into the crankcase. At least, that's what I have been led to believe....perhaps still questionable?

So, the question is moot at this point, whether its Mahle, BMW or other brands !

I've only used Hiflo for years.

Me too, supplied by myself, fitted by a BMW dealer, inc. Castrol engine oil & Liqui Moly gearbox/final drive oil.

For my years in engineering I've found if the oil filter is below or level with the sump as on a Hex head there is no valve needed. That changes when you get to higher side mounted filters. This is where a valve is needed.
