I have £4k to spend on a BMW RT can you advise, 1. which model and year I should consider, what issues should I look out for, and can you recommend a great value insurer. Much appreciated. Pete

Re: General Advice Please
Welcome to the forum, sadly the RT is not a cheap bike, so with your budget your going to be driven more by what you can get than what you should be looking for unfortunately
Just check all the consumable parts like tires, brake pipes, seals and especially the drive shaft for potential replacement as these could quickly add up
Personally, and I'm sure I'll be flamed for this, I'd have a look at an FJ12/GTR1400/VFR1200 etc as I think you will get a newer one for the money

Thanks, I am still liking the BMW as I believe the CofG is lower and also need comfort rather than sporty.

Great engine(I had one before moving to the RT)the rest is pretty much pants for a sports tourer.

I'd go for a 2010 - 2013 Twin Cam model if you can find one within your budget.
The GS 'is' the better bike :-)

+1 on the twin cam. Gets you into the more modern switchgear and away from wine gum indicators. Decent engine too.
