So I just bought a 2016 R1200RT with 35k miles. Guy I got it from said the TPMS occasionally gave him trouble. I rode it home (Colorado Springs) from Phoenix and it showed the front tire as red nearly the whole way and the rear tire as white about half the time. It did show TP 36 and 42 for a time. Road and weather conditions ranged from 110F+ and dry to 55F and light rain. Talked to the service tech at the BMW Motorrad store while getting my VIN checked for Colorado registration purposes, and he reported the TPMS was crap. Yesterday and today, running around on the bike, it showed the TP faults constantly. I checked manually before I left the house, and the pressures were correct.
I realized I've ridden tens of thousands of miles over 58 years and I had always functioned as the tire pressure monitoring system. I was pretty good at it - never had a flat or other tire failure. That said, I stressed about the TPMS's warnings much of the ride.
Is it possible to make the system work? If so, at what cost? If not, can I disable the system so I can use the display for what I want to see (Range, Temp, etc). As it is, at every start-up, the display defaults to TPMS.
Otherwise, what a bike! I'm really enjoying it. I'm building my list of farkles/mods to do, but previous owner had most everything sorted to my thinking.
Thanks in advance

Thanks, I'll check it that link. I'm glad you sent it.
Will it interface with the BMW display?

Re: TPMS - kaputt!
Just had the same issue this morning. 2014 1200RT LC. Tyre pressure warning light came on and TPMS showed red on rear. Got the tyre pressure checked and it was ok. TPMS eventually reset itself to show normal pressures then the rear one went to 3 dashes, then reset to normal again.
Local garage said new TPMS sensor needed which he can do but would probably need to be reset by BMW.

Re: TPMS - kaputt!
When I replaced mine I plugged it in to programme the rear and it had already picked it up! Which I thought was a bit strange
