Hi all! I'm a newbie to this site with an unusual problem.
2 weeks ago, I'm in the second day of a long trip and the battery warning light comes on. Long story short, My local BMW dealership diagnosed a faulty voltage regulator. On the first day of my second attempt to take a long trip, the same warning lights come on. I turn back for home, the warning lights turn red, several other warning lights come on, the dash display goes dead, comes back on, goes out again, comes back on. 5 miles later, all of the warning lights go out, the dash display is normal and I make it back home unassisted. I described this to the tech at the dealer. He asked me to check the voltage output when the engine is running: 14.1v. His diagnosis: "Very peculiar." HELP! Anyone got any ideas? Thank you!

Thank you for the replies. Much appreciated. I'll check the voltage at higher revs.
I took a 120 mile ride on Wednesday. Towards the end of the ride the service needed symbol came on.
Time to head back to the dealer. Probably is the stator.
