Front left storage compartment. 2020 R1250RT
I’m unable to open the front left storage compartment. Should the key slot be in line with the wheels, or at 90 degrees to them?
Mine could be seized through lack of use but I don’t want to force and sprain anything.

I had a similar issue a couple of weeks ago. I think the rubber seal can fold the wrong way and gum up the working on the lock. I ended up having to pry it open once I’d seen which way the key needed to be (can’t recall that bit off the top of my head). But you may need a wide, thin tool of some form to gently lift it open.
Remember, ride to arrive alive!

My R1250RT is still covered under warranty. The front left storage fills with water when I wash it. The dealer told me that this compartment is not supposed to be water tight and it is not a covered repair. He offered to drill a hole in the bottom of the compartment to allow the water to drain out? Does anybody else's compartment leak water? Is it really normal to leak?

Have never specifically checked mine, either after a wet ride or washing, but seeing there is a small paper note pad and small box of matches in it - I have never noticed them wet/damp!!! If it wasn't designed to be waterproof, why put in the rubber seal begs the question?

I felt like it was kind of a bogus excuse. I will press my dealer on the issue. Thank you for your replies.

3 years on and mine is as dry as a bone. Don't accept the dealer version - ludicrous! As Gareth1962 said.....why the rubber seal if it's not meant to be waterproof?

FYI I pressed the service manager, he replaced the seal, and it's bone dry now. Thanks all.
