Bar Risers

Post by Capt Sisko »

Hi All, I often get a pain between my shoulder blades when riding and reading up on the net it's been commented that bar risers could be the answer, so as an experiment half way through a 200mile ride last weekend I flipped the seat bracket on my RT to the 'low' position. From a shoulder to grip angle perspective I figured lowering my body was the equivalent of putting 20mm bar risers, and it seemed to make a difference.

Great you might say, you've answered your own question but the problem is the low seat position is too low for me and at my age my knees / hip joints ain't up to the angles it's creating for them, (and yes, I already have a footpeg lowering kit on). For me the seat really needs to be in the 'high' position for comfort, hence the need for bar risers. So question No.1 for the hive brain, have others experienced this upper back pain / fixed by bar risers scenario?

The bike in question is an '18 R1250RT with the one piece cast bars and there appears to be only one option avaiable, a cast block type that go on the end of the said one piece cast bars (as per these https://www.nippynormans.com/r1200rt-lc ... lc-r1250rt however as you can imagine £250 is a bit steep!

So question No.2 & more.
2. Has anyone tried the AliExpress / Amazon / FleaBay knock offs that you can get for less than £40 a pair?

3. Are the brake hoses and cables to the switchgear long enough?
4. If not, again Wunderlich will set you a pair for £80. Again, anyone cheaper know to alternatives?

5. Is it a DIY job or are speciaist tools required?
6. Anything else?

H Rick,

I have a K-1600 and put two sets of risers on it, one put the bars up, the other back. Fits me great, although it's not for everyone. I put mini apes on my last 3 Harleys for the same comfort, a little up and a little back, fits me well.

I bought the K-1600 risers off Ebay, had the BMW dealer install them. Disclaimer, you never know what you're getting off Ebay.

Good luck in your search.

I purchased the #2 risers from AliExpress about a year ago. After installing them, I was a little concerned about their strength. About 6 months ago, I dropped my bike. A friend helped me pick it up. He naturally grabbed the grips to right the bike. I about had a heart attach and expected them to snap. To my surprise, they held. So they are stronger than they look. So far, I am very pleased with my purchase.
I did have to fabricate a tool to remove the original bars. The stock wiring, etc. fit, but it took some fiddling.

I also got discomfort in the same place which was sorted by risers.

I do have an unused set from Amazon that you’re welcome to which I bought for my 2018 1200, which will fit your 1250.

I’ll send them up if you PM me your address, give them a try and if you like them make a donation to either a dementia or cancer charity.
