Hand signals?!

Post by Minty »

I've been riding since the mid nineties so I'm not that green but, I was given a hand signal today that I've not seen before. No it wasn't what you're thinking so don't start!

I was exiting a roundabout on the sherburn bypass and nodded to a guy on a fireblade coming towards me, about to go onto the roundabout and he pointed to the ground with his throttle hand! I checked the road ahead and there wasn't any debris or diesel, I had turned my indicators off, I couldn't see any speed traps or anything like that.

Any ideas?

Maybe. Never seen it before in GB, completely new to me, especially with the right hand!

I've seen and used the left leg over on the continent.

It might just have been "wow, awesome bike mate" 🤣

It's mostly the hipster sports riders that do that. Usually a peace sign upside down. If you can't be bothered to nod or wave, you get nowhere with me.

From personal experience on our trips the hand signal as you describe it is something I’ve seen numerous riders do especially in France… Italians are far too cool to acknowledge your presence, and Greeks just can’t be arsed.
