New to me 05 R1200RT

Post by Philipw162 »

First longer ride, power cut when open the throttle to overtake. Cut out, came back, cut out, came back causing the bike to buck somewhat alarmingly. Did a couple more times at throttle opening, then did it shifting up to second pulling away. Felt like when you're in too high a gear going too slow and the bike wants to stall. Then pulled off to gas up and the bike wouldn't restart. Dash fires up, goes through start up sequence, lights come on, press the ignition button, nothing. Engine doesn't crank over at all. New battery replaced 2 weeks ago. Pulled the seat and you can hear a relay close when ignition is pressed but the engine doesn't crank. Made the ride home on the Flat Bed Of Shame. Any help greatly appreciated.

Sorry for your trouble - is this a new bike to you?

Many bikes as they get older experience a whole load of issues, and many are because as they get older people don't spend the money maintaining them or sorting issues as they crop up, and at almost 20 years old, your may be one of those bikes

I'm not sure I'd trust a 20 year old bike I had recently bought to do long distances on without having it into the shop for a good going over first, but I could also appreciate the bill could be more than the bike is worth if you went that way

I don't have an answer other than it sound like more than one issue, I'd seek a specialist :?:
