Re: What did you do today?
Yesterday I took the car in for its MOT and short service, this was my dads car and I wanted to use the main dealer he used to frequent this one last time, and agreed price of £264 for mot plus oil and filter servoce and the multipoint check.
First up I was told the anniversary of the mot could not be preserved as they booked it in 1 day to soon but rather than go back or elsewhere I said carry on.
Car was booked in for 8am sharp as a waiting appointment, 8-30 am and the car is still parked outside , this happened last year and I specifically asked if it was an 8am start this time.
So after an hour or so I’m told it passed it’s mot and the guy was just doing the service but unfortunately 3 of the locking wheel studs had sheared off….. he showed me one which had a lot of surface rust on the head but not the threads, these were all off on last years service and I took one off myself 3 months ago for a slow puncture.
So his offer was I take the car as is but if I got a puncture I would not be able to remove the wheel, or an hours labour and extra wait ( now 3 hours) to forcibly remove said studs and replace with non locking type.
I said better go ahead and remove them then. I checked my watch then 50 mins later I saw the car come by the window done, they then said he was over the hour but as goodwill would cap it to 1 hour at a staggering £116 plus vat and £20 plus vat for 4 plain studs.
Definitely not a happy chappy I left £413 lighter instead of £264 and now no locking studs…
I’m going to write a letter of complaint I think.

Re: What did you do today?
I can't get over my local labour charges. Our MOT place and garage (no brand speciality in a unit on a residential street behind houses) charges £115 + VAT labour. Our main dealer, just around the corner, wanted to charge £198 + VAT (I assume their hourly rate) to "investigate" the worn anti-roll bar bushes that I asked them to check/replace while the car was in for other work that involved putting it up on a ramp.

Re: What did you do today?
Yesterday. Weather cleared up. Met a mate for a 150 mile ride. We took back roads up the coast, for fish and chips at Aldeburgh, then on to Andy Tiernan's ( classic bike dealer). They have a lovely 1950s R50, but £10k!
Today will be bike wash down. 200 miles to 1st service.
1st time I've ridden yesterday's route for maybe 5 years. What a disappointment. Everywhere has revised speed limits. Nationals downgraded to 40 or 50mph limits. Even a couple of bends have their own 30mph speed limit. Road planners now seem to assume everyone needs constant supervision. All this will do is encourage everyone to drive at the speed limit, without thinking or taking personal responsibility for their progress. I guess, so they can play with the tablets on their dashboard whilst driving.

Re: What did you do today?
Just got back from a mucky ride from Boxhill. No rain, temp was 9c. The sun was blinding. Dark visor plus sun glasses were needed to stop the glare. loads of muck being chucked up from car tyres. From there I went to Newlands corner for a hobble around. After another cuppa and a pee i returned home via the country lanes which had loads of Winter crap and some were flooded nearly a foot deep.
May have to give the bike it's yearly wash after this.

Re: What did you do today?
Popped out to Biggin Hill Museum, just to get a snap at the main gate. Low winter sun was a challenge, but clear blue skies and a drying track made up for it and worth the 170 mile round trip! At least the rain from "Bert" had washed away all of the salt!
Tomorrow, we have more rain forecast (like we needed it) so the bike will get a clean & polish, then go on life support, in the garage. It's that time of the year for the Panthers to come out - they are not bothered by wet/salty roads!
