Favourite / most important tool

Post by beemerbaz »

I guess we all have very extensive tool kits that we have collected over the years and I am no exception. Since owning my RT I have come to the conclusion that all I need is a couple of torx keys to keep me happy.

Does anyone else have a favourite tool that they cannot do without ?

As a treat I bought myself a collection of long reach torx keys but only need 2 !!

Love tools. My Beta Mini tool kit I carry on the bike for emergency use. Useful in the garage too.

Best to carry a  `Puncture  repair Kit',  takes 10-15  minutes to fix at road side - alternatively wait 2 hours +,  for  a recovery assistance.    Buy a Kit with  a substantive air valve,  not with a flimsy  plastic one that will snap off or leak under pressure from the CO2 rendering the kit useless.    Kit should include `surgical'  type gloves  ( protection from the glue unless you intend to ride without your MC gloves on now )  Blade to trim `plug' repair.

Carry small lightweight pair of pliers in tool roll, to pull  `cause'  from tyre.    Remember  these DIY  kits  are designed as a `get you home' - service area -workshop,  so max speed `suggested'  is 30mph,
although someone in a local club rode at 90 + with a DIY  repair across France !!  and then continued to ride with this repair until he eventually  changed  his tyres months later.

Of course some punctures /rips / damage  just cannot be sorted at the roadside and may mean a recovery/ call out for new tyres ect  ( hope not ).    ;)

The C02'S are 15 gr, sufficient to inflate a tyre and can easily be replaced ordering online as with spare `plugs' and adhesive.  This Kit was  just £18.95 a good investment, especially if touring  abroad....... ;)

Perhaps I should add that I take no tools with me when riding except for the OEM comprehensive tool kit and my breakdown membership card, touch wood I have never needed either.

Exactly what I carried until last August Bank Holiday in France,  when my mate had a rear puncture.  3.5 hr wait for roadside assistance, hence now carry a kit...... ::)

Yes, I've used the Airpro Kit, http://www.motohaus.com/acatalog/Airpro ... n-Kit.html, to good effect.

I don't have the CO2 Cartridges, but carry a mini compressor.

Very good kit. So far used it 3 times. Last time coming home from Sedan to ferry, fixed a rear puncture and was back on the road in 30 mins. Beats the hell out of waiting hours for recovery. Used with Slime compressor.

I'm going to say the Motoscan app. Without it, or similar such as GS911, you just can't do some important things.
