guys I'm all new to hard luggage & haven't got any idea regarding top boxes & plates.
This is the rack I inherited with the RT I bought last month. If I buy say, a Givi topbox with matching plate, will it definitely attach to this existing one or will this have to be changed as well ?
Many thanks
Mike

Re: Please help me with top box confusion
That Givi plate looks like the Monolock variety, however, a retaining part is missing from the rear, (see photo below).
Buying a new plate will give the choice of Monokey or Monolock Top Cases.

Thanks David
Yes it looks like a mono lock plate. Looks like I'll just have to replace the whole thing.

Mike just remember the different models: Monolock = lightweight duty daily short type journeys; Monokey = touring heavier load carrying ability. Hope it helpsMickthecat wrote: Thanks David

Thanks Spencer
Yeah I want something heavy duty so was going to go for the Monokey system. Seems I'll have to change this plate that's fitted

Re: Please help me with top box confusion
Was out yesterday with a bike (Suzuki) which had a Top Box plate similar to the one on the RT.
I suspect this is not a Givi plate, sorry for any confusion above.
The rear fixing is threaded to accept a bolt from within the Top Box.

Looks like Givi do a specific Monokey rack for a R 1100 RT (1996 > 2000).
