Based on all the above, in the future, if a Battery fails & it's convenient to be recovered home, I'll be buying the Exide Battery from Euro Parts.

I know of some Folks who change their Bikes every 2 years & are therefore always covered by the BMW New Bike Warranty.
In this example, they would never have to buy a new Battery.

My 2007 & 2010 RT's both had the same type of GEL Batteries.
Owned the 2007 Bike for 3.5 years covering 39,000 miles, no problems on it's original Battery.
The Battery on the 2010 Bike failed after 3.5 years & approximately 31,000 miles.
Both Batteries were used & maintained in the same manner, it's just how it goes.

On my R80 and 1200GS I had an odyssey battery mainly because they retained the charge much better at lower air temperatures.

Even though AGM batteries have only been used on RTS since 2014 BMW first used them in 2003 on the K1200S, so they are nothing new really.

Other than myself, has anyone had to replace a Battery on their RT.
If so, how long did the original one last & what make did you replace it with.

Bought my 2011 bike last October and was advertised as having a virtually brand new Motobatt battery. The mileage was only 6500 so the bike had obviously sat around for long periods. Don't know if it had been on a battery tender.

In April 2014, the Battery on the 2010 RT failed after 3.5 years & approximately 30,000 miles, a new BMW (Exide) Battery was fitted by a BMW Dealer with a 2 Year Warranty.
In October 2014, I purchased a used 2012 RT & had the above Battery transferred from one Bike to the Other.
I'll be firing the Bike up for the first time in 5 Months whilst the Battery is still under Warranty.

During its lay up has it been connected to the Nationl Grid and if so how much.

Whenever I put the charger on the Battery, it goes to "Maintain" more or less straight away.
This time last year, I pushed the button & it started first time, after being stood for 6 months.

Yep, just like mine. The charger does little more than tell you the battery is as good as full.
