One Oil I have looked at as an alternative to the Castrol is Morris Super Sport V Twin 10W-50,
http://www.morrislubricants.co.uk/produ ... 0w-50.html, this is a Motorcycle specific oil, which currently costs £32.00 for 4 litres.
For £30.00, you can get 5 litres of Morris X-RPM Competition 10W-50 (car oil),

Both oils are available from Andy who has a Unit adjacent to the Riverside Stadium in Middlesbrough, he can be contacted on 07931 770494.
Andy also does Service Kits for RT's on ebay, looks like there may be a choice depending on which make of Filters you prefer.

Crikey, £16 a litre. We're going the wrong way !!.
I do seem to remember having Motorex Oil fitted to one of my BM's during a service at Barrie Robson's quite some time ago. "It's the official BMW recommended oil Sir". Eee ba gum. what goes around comes around !!.

So, BMW have gone forward from 20W-50 Mineral to 10W-50 Fully-synthetic, then backward to 15W-50 Semi-synthetic.
The greater the Viscosity range (10W for cold start) & the higher spec. Fully-synthetic, surely gives the best Engine protection.

I'm not too sure that they ever got to the bottom of it.
The reason given by Cooper Sunderland was that BMW were investigating a number of Piston Crown failures, whatever that means.
I was told that the new Pistons fitted were of a different design.
