If we do "mix & match" the routes, which both use Seaways/Wetwang as a stop, 2 options could look like this.

Option 1 - k9doc outward, 50 miles in 1 hr 17 mins, plus David return, 68 miles in 1 hr 57 mins, a total of 118 miles in 3 hr 14 mins.

or

Option 2 - David out, 51 miles in 1 hr 38 mins, plus k9doc return, 100 miles in 2 hr 20 mins, a total of 151 miles in 3 hr 58 mins.

Hi Guy's

I'm more than happy to do any combination of routes. Count me in  :)

There is a petrol station at Morrisons in Wetherby, fuel is also available at Fridaythorpe (near Seaways Café).

If we do all of k9doc's route or all of David's route (Option 3),  timewise they are almost the same, 3 hr 38 mins or 3 hr 34 mins respectively.

It might come down to distance, k9doc 150 miles (TC's) or David 119 miles (LC's).

Perhaps time might determine the routes taken,
Option 1 = 3 hr 14 mins
Option 2 = 3 hr 58 mins
Option 3 = 3 hr 36 mins (ave.)

Option 4 = 4 hr 17 mins, that's both k9doc's & David's return routes added together 168 miles, with one of them inverted.

If we are aiming for approx. 3 hr plus 2 stops, how about Option 1.

The only thing we can't plan is the weather.

Just back from the gym so brain is a bit addled and I'm a little confused, but any route looks good after a session on the machines..
It appears that the longer option includes a section where we do 31 miles in 4 minutes. That's pushing it even for a TC. Does this mean less speed limits?

Don't understand this bit ie TC/LC. Am I being thick?

David's route of 119 miles includes minor (white) roads, where the going may be at a lesser pace than that on k9doc's route of 150 miles, on mainly A & B roads,
hence similar times of circa 3 hr 36 mins ave.

It's an "in-joke" re fuel consumption.

I know on the old Mapsource that you could predetermine speed to be used in route calculations dependant on road type (under Preferences) and that the mapping programme knows speed limits and which roads are National Limit. This could lead to major underestimation of route times as it assumed white roads and lanes to be National Limit ie 60 mph. where in reality, those speeds were unattainable.
Basecamp must be much more sophisticated if it takes this into account automatically.

Joke now understood.

I'm picking up on a little sarcasm on the LC consumption..... I might have to try the BMW recommended fuel additive  ;)

It's made by Chevron with a BMW badge on it.

In the Activity Profile, you can customize the speeds for different road types, I just use the default settings.

If you have done the same, then, that's probably why the times are similar for two routes of different distances & road types.

Thanks, see that now, hadn't scrolled down far enough and so have the default settings. Mystery explained.

Or....
How about this..don't know if it's similar to option 4

161 miles  4hr 11 mins + 3 stops. Plenty of daylight and could easily be accomplished within an 8 hour 'working day'. Out for 0900, home for 1700.

Could easily pull in Wetwang chippy for lunch.

Somewhere near, it certainly is a combination of both k9doc's & David's suggestions.

One thing to consider is how far & how long it takes folks to get from home to Wetherby & back.

I'm only 48 miles in 51 mins from Wetherby, add this to the circular route and it becomes, 257 miles in 5 hr 47 mins riding time, plus a stop at the start & finish (5 stops).
(Last weekend in the Peak District, I ended up doing 270 miles & was out from 08:00 to 19:00, 11 hours.)

It's probably OK for those who have expressed an interest so far, only being around an hour from Wetherby.
May put anyone off who would have to travel further to the start & from the finish.

Perhaps the way forward is to agree a start time at Wetherby, see who turns up & what time they would like to be home.
This may determine which routes are ridden, there's certainly plenty of choices.

I'm 54 miles circa 1hr 15mins from Wetherby start point which isn't a problem for me.

People can always join the ride at different points or depart at convenient points to there return home trip, as Simbo and I did on the last ride out.

From experience, it's probably better to all start at the same point, it can become a bit messy not knowing who is joining, where & when.

Would agree about the departure point from the ride, folks can keep an eye on their timescale & "bail out" early if necessary.

I have to miss out on this one as well (Daughters wedding) but looking forward to the Tewksbury meet. 👍
