Went to dealer, test rode a 1200RT (and loved it) but was not quoted a vunderbar price. Was told that BMW announces rebates and such at the beginning of the month so will see what 11/1 brings. I imagine X-mas and the year's end (with 2018s sitting on the loading dock) will offer some more enticing prices....

Not sure how it works with the US market, having a bit of inside info it appears that there are a number of bikes that a dealer will order across the range with a particular spec. These are then allocated to the dealer who can either take it or leave in free circulation at the BMW distribution centre. The free circulation can then be taken by any dealer and there's some internal dealer offsets. These are the ones that the best deals can be made on. If however you order one with very specific extras or colour and has to be made to order, then tougher getting the deal and the lead time is 3 plus months. Currently there is an overstock on certain models, mainly sports bikes (never sell well in Winter).
The US might work differently however the business model might still apply so check with the dealers what bikes are available across the network as they can see all the ones within dealerships and they trade across them if it makes financial sense.
