There is a subtle link in the text of the first post on this thread - now that will get your grey matter working.

Horseshoe pass, Llangollen.

Arromanches. Gold Beach and the remains of the Mulberry Harbour which was affectionately named 'Port Winston'.

Now are you going to have a crack at my piccie?

I've not been there Chris so I was waiting for someone who has  ;)  It looks beautiful on google maps though! Something for a 'Northern Monkeys' Saturday to Saturday ride perhaps?

Now there's a thought. Did the French Gorges (Tarn Verdon Ardeche), a good piece of the N85 (Route Napolean) and some French Alpine Passes on the same trip last time. Still got the route and the hotels somewhere in the archives. Will have to dig them out.

Simbo got the correct answer. The link I mentioned was the word “pondering” as the Horseshoe Pass has the famous Ponderosa Cafe which always has plenty of bikers enjoying the food and drink.
So when is this “old enough to know better” supposed to kick in?

Ditto here, haven't been to Arromanches either, could this be the first NM's Euro (K9) Tour.

Time to start a new thread.

Sadly I think a trip of this nature would be a bit much for my achey bits these days, just checked and the above photo was from 2007. Less ambitious projects are, for me at least, the order of the day but in my head I would love to do it again.

Arromanches is a very thought provoking place but that area of France in my humble opinion, as a biker playground, is less inspiring. Maybe have a look on the way to somewhere else would be my call (FWIW).

Spot on, approach from the Italian side just outside Courmayer on the way to the tunnel. Great ride down the Aosta valley.

Anybody identify my picture yet?  simbo knows but hasn't revealed. Another clue would be 'glad I don't have to pedal up there'.
