My last service cost me 67.50 GBP, plus oil & filter which I supplied myself. I don't think that is unreasonable.

My last service on my Black GS cost £180 for oil and filter and brake fluid change, plus I had a choice of one of four bikes for the day (unfortunately I chose the R9T) :-( and numerous cups of coffee. 

Sorry, forgot to mention my service included free collection from and delivery back to home. Plus I've now got two of each Vertu neck tubes & beanie hats.

Williams Manchester also offer a free collection & delivery service for the Winter hibernation species

So £101.50


My nearest dealer charged me £135 so not a great deal of difference really plus they give the bike a good going over while they are at it so in comparison I don't think its that bad


But that service would have normally cost me the parts only

Hi Hammo.  I had a similar discussion with the salesman who sold me my 1200RT LC a three years ago from the BMW dealership in South Yorkshire.  My bike had done 13k miles after 2 years and as I travel around Europe a fair amount I explored extending the warranty. It costs £400 a year - which would knock a decent hole in the majority of common breakdown problems.  He was very reasonable and we both agreed £400 was a pretty hefty annual insurance premium!  He went on to say, "...these bikes are really reliable and will go on for ever!  Famous last words, I know but so far he has been proved right.  I think if you keep up with good quality services and replace parts as required then it's a risk worth taking.

Do the warranty people send out the details/ prices of the extended warranty package?
A month to go before the manufacturers warranty finishes and I've not had anything through. I'm sure last time I did but it might have changed.
Tried to ring them but got bored listening to the automated message.

BMW never sent me any extended warranty details , i checked it out on the web , the last time i used it they required £35,00 a month and you could cancel it when you where ready too .

BMW sent me a pack/brochure when my Black GS was about to expire last year, I didn't renew because I was already on the lookout for a 1250.


ps. I think you can do it online by putting your reg number in on the Motorrad warranty page.

I have one of the first 2017 models in the UK  do all my own servicing for the last two years not had any issues.  Exhaust flap is now starting to stick a little but if it becomes a problem I'll fix it open

I've never extended any warranty on a vehicle. I've found most problems happen within the first 3 years. Every time the warranty expires i always service them myself. I've owned plenty of BMW bikes in the past and have never found the need for an extra warranty. Maybe ive been lucky but with every service i do i treat as a major one and not just an oil and filter service.
I also own a Royal Enfield Himalayan and except for the first run in service ive serviced it myself. That's the good thing with RE, they expect the owner to service the bike themselves. This does not affect the warranty. As long as you keep the receipts for the parts and they don't have to be genuine parts.
