I spent about about an hour on the bike today. I took off the panniers, radio box, side trim, muffler and the foot peg support pieces/disconnect rear brake plunger and lever assembly. No drama, one stripped torx screw on the crash bar/pannier frame but came off with some vice grip persuasion. I presprayed all of the accessible bolts that hold the frame with PB Break although probably doesn't even need it. I am working at a very casual pace, measure 2x cut once approach.

Spent about 30 minutes staring at the wiring, brake lines and trying to get a picture in my head of how to logistically separate front from back, what can stay and what has to be separated, where to move it. There are some additional wires due to police equip, but not much.

I think I can get it down to D-day status with another couple of hours, meaning I can get it to a spot where I can separate it, pull the starter/gear box, R/R the clutch and get it back together in a day. This is assuming that once it is apart, the friction disc is the single fail point.

I am enlisting help for that day, want some extra hands and muscle to remove the rear end and the gear box, and also to reinstall, that most def looks like a four handed operation.

Looking for the correct clutch alignment tool. Wunderlich says this is the right one, but, they are out of stock. I found one on ebay, that "looks" the same, but trying to verify the part number. Here is the wunderlich part. I don't think their part number is a BMW part # but between the two listings, it does show that they fit on corresponding bikes including mine.

https://www.wunderlichamerica.com/BMW_K ... ering_Tool

and the ebay part that IS available

https://www.ebay.com/itm/275423797993?c ... 15001ec338

If anyone can verify that the ebay piece will work or can direct me to one or has one they would loan or sell to me, let me know.

Thanks!

Bought mine at Euro Motoelectrics, but it looks like they may be out of stock

https://www.euromotoelectrics.com/produ ... ool768.htm

As I recall, Haynes manual shows how to make one that is supposed to work.

Part # 83 30 0 401 768

IMO, removing the rear subframe needs at least 2 people, in my case I had 3 to remove and replace. I've seen some do it with wheel and swingarm attached but I removed all this first.
