I was having intermittent problems with the ignition not firing up at all, no TFT screen, no click, nothing. Key battery fine, also bike was obviously still reading the key as I could still operate central locking, but not ignition or TFT. I put the bike on charge using a Canbus charger through the Din socket and on two such occasions (2 weeks apart) after an hour it started. Eventually dealership replaced the Battery under warranty. Problem fixed - NOT!
Six weeks ago after washing the bike, I started it up and it ran for 2 minutes then shut down all by itself. Once again ignition button would not activate anything. Central locking worked so was reading key ok. Dealer picked up bike and next day advised the Keyless Ride Module had failed. Explains the previous failed starts were the Module starting to fail and not the battery at all. Probably a bad seal allowing moisture in. Bike is a Dec 2022 build R1250RT and has done 18,000km. Dealer advised they have had quite a few similar failures recently - but don't expect BMW to admit that.
It took exactly 6 weeks for Berlin to ship a module to somewhere in Asia where the programming of the module to the key takes place and then shipped to Australia. Final step after installing on Bike is another program download from Berlin to complete the install. Not sure if a surge in numbers has contributed to this incredible timeframe or this is just BMW being overly security conscious and designing a system to eliminate illegal copying. Whatever, it is in all honesty, ridiculous. Dealer couldn't do anything to expedite as it is a very rigid process.
Hope no one else has this issue, but be careful not to blame the Battery unless it is properly tested and fails.
