I had a huge poster of the CBX on my bedroom wall. I still remember the statement on it "changing up from 4th to 5th... Note the smoke from the rear tyre" it was 1980. Speaking of interesting bikes, has anyone owned a Yamaha SR500? Or how about the Kawasaki KH500 triple widow maker? That had a habit of heat seizing the middle piston & locking the back wheel up. Somebody must have had my favourate bike of all time... The GT750 kettle. Still miss the sound of those bikes.

Sadly all I have left are memories of my old bikes some of which were shared as we were too young to have a license and would ride on an old sewage road between Llangynwyd and Llletybrongi (not sure I spelt that right) one was a Matchless 350 with 2nd & 3rd gears, AJS and a couple more. Legally owned a Hond Super Dream 250, for an age sold it for a song (my new wife didn't like bikes). I was fortunate to still keep riding as we had a Canam 350 and an Armstrong in the unit for my use. Next owned bike Yamaha TDM, Triumph Tiger 1050, Tiger 800, Tiger 800 XC and now my lovely, beautiful Arty who I love see.

One of my brothers had a "kettle" around 1980 I think, sold it on to my other brother who kept it for years and was a regular attendee at "kettle club" events until well into 2000's. I always recall how big the bike looked in those days, but when you see one now it just doesn't look so imposing against modern stuff.

Love the photos Dave! This thread is like reminiscence therapy. I can't remember what I had for breakfast half the time but I can remember the sound of those GT's! For me the GT's were best in metallic blue; the slightly later KH500 were best in dark green metallic & the SR500 in Maroon. I will have to treat myself to a nice kettle one day. Been promising myself one for about 30 yrs.. I just can't get over the fact that good ones now cost a fortune.

Loved the tdm. Wish those were imported to the states. I remember seeing tons of RD 125s and dt 125's when i lived in France. Really popular bikes for the 16 year old set.

Haha, you are a fountain of resources Dave. This reaffirmed to me that the GT750 is the most handsome bike ever built. A proper 'mans' bike! (It's a pity they handled like a pissed cow on roller-skates..)

Yeah a great bike way ahead of its time some informed people even debate it was the forerunner of the adventure bike, I did like mine and look back and feel like kicking myself up the arse I didn't keep it. There again I feel pretty much the same of all my old bikes. There is another great bike which I left of my list, the Susuki GSR600 which I purchased as a commuter bike in the city (London) sadly I wrote (totalled) not me or the bike's fault. A great inner city bike.

What about modern "retro" style, so called "muscle" bikes??
This is picture of friends CB1300 just before we set off for super ride into mid Wales yesterday morning.
Always liked the look of it.

Retro bikes have never quite done it for me. Partly because there's no history- ie I can't associate a particular part of my life with them, or think back to when my older brother had one etc.
