In 2014, is cost me £2,920 to change a 2010 RT for a 2012 RT, that's £1,460 per year.

An ACF-50 treatment costs £70, saving me £1,390 per year, not buying a new bike.

That assumes your bike would have rotted away in the time you owed it had you not spent £70 a year spraying it in goo. It wouldn't have.

How long is a piece of string.  To be honest I never kept a tally, just swapped for the next (model improvement).  But my point is I did not and never have invested in treatment I didn't consider necessary and have never had any corrosion issues over my 20 years of ownership.

If you change your bike every 2 years, I wouldn't expect any corrosion issues either.

I've got a sales invoice for my latest RT, it gives the Selling price of the 2012 RT, less the P/Ex Value of the 2010 RT, leaving a Balance to pay of £2,920.

A new RT LE costs £16,000, how much is a 2 year old one worth as a P/Ex.

Some folks must be on their second LC RT by now.

My 2010 RT was P/Ex'd with over 36,000 miles on the clock, the book mileage for a 4 year old bike was 17,000 miles.

I was given top book price because the bike was in exceptionally good condition for it's age & mileage, no excess mileage factor was applied.

On the BMW Motorrad site, there are 13 x September 2014 RT LE's at an average retail price of £12,500.

Using this against a new price of £16,000 - £12,500 = £3,500, that's £1,750 per year.

The P/Ex value is likely to be at least £1,000 less than the retail, therefore the cost to change would be an estimate of £4,500 after 2 years.

Is this way off the mark or can anyone who's made the change recently confirm it's a reasonable guess.

For me, it's not about trade in value. I tend to keep my bikes for at least 5 years, and like to keep them showroom fresh.

Likewise for me, had a 2007 RT for 3.5 years, a 2010 RT for 4 years & the 2012 RT is now 4.5 years old, I have no plans to change it.

At trade in time, the dealers both said that the 2007 & 2010 RT's were in excellent condition for their age & mileage, (which was well above average in each case).

From my experience, trading to a new bike, 2010 from 2007 cost about £6,000.

My winter time maintenance list just got longer.  I got a little over zealous on some back roads and ended up gently tipping my bike over in a mud puddle.  Left side mirror housing cracked, left side mirror glass broke, and the left side signal light is broken.  Anyone have a good source for left side mirror glass and signal light?  I glued up the mirror housing, and its in OK shape (small scuff on it, but I'll live with it - a long-term reminder to not get too adventurous or I pay the price). 


Beemer boneyard?  Anywhere else in north america?

Here's a thought.  Last year a bloke on tour with me lost his complete right hand mirror on a K1200LT.  It's replacement from from BMW was more than the value of the whole bike.  He managed to get the whole thing from China for about £50 .  He did have to get it colour matched though .  I couldn't tell the difference from the OEM one.

On the RT, the mirror housing is just black (not body colored), so any source is going to net the same end result.  The left signal lens and the left mirror glass are all I need.

You won't find the indicator glass by itself. It's all,one unit.  Replacement glass is no problem.  Speak to your dealer.

Sourced the mirror glass and signal lens from the local dealer.  Both parts are in, and all I'm waiting for now is a 14mm thin wall spark plug socket (ordered off Amazon for $9usd), then I'm ready to begin...  Aw heck, if you can't ride it, you might as well wrench it.  I did get 11 months of riding this year (in CANADA!) so I'm happy about that.
