I thought the cat was part of type approval. Im suprised if BMW approve the fitting without it.

The Akrapovic silencer is the only one approved for use by BMW.

Don't know if these headers are approved for use by BMW. The observation is that the valve has been retained.

If fitting the non-cat. version Akrapovic recommend the following.

When installing optional headers E-B12R7, remapping the ECU is recommended in order to prevent »check engine light« warning signal and achieve optimized performance and throttle response.

THIS PRODUCT DOES NOT MEET EMISSION COMPLIANCE REQUIREMENTS FOR STREET OR HIGHWAY USE.

I wonder if the Akrapovic header with a catalytic converter is approved for use by BMW.

Options are available in Stainless Steel or Titanium. In both cases, they have an exhaust valve, with or without a catalytic converter.

Interesting that the exhaust valve has been retained in all cases.
I wonder if they have had to do this to have them approved for use by BMW.
"Featuring exhaust valve for improved rideability in lower rpm."

Check out the installation instructions to see photos of the different Akrapovic v's BMW exhaust valve.

Great, its just they show the GS headers, which are different to the RT. But let's be honest, its not rocket science to change headers - is it

Not for anyone with any mechanical skills it's not, it's a very straightforward job.
The GS 'is' the better bike :-)

What lube was used, was the flap seized and is it free now.

That flap looks very clean, no sign of carbon or lubricant.
