My (reply #28) would apply to a bike without cruise control. Now we know why the cruise control will disengage and possibly why the bike won't start when in gear.

Checked my (Camhead) clutch switch today, you can defo. hear two distinct clicks as the clutch lever is pulled into the grip.

Yes it is a double microswitch and it had failed just fitted the replacement 15-20 min job and now it works as it should
