When i have nothing to do i call around dealers to see if i can book test rides. Been doing this for a few years and have ridden anything from 125cc up to the flagships. The only test i could get today was a K1600 GLT. Like all BMW it feels heavy at standstill but once at a walking pace that all disappears. My God does it fly. It was so quiet that i didn't realise the speed i was going. On the twisties, it stuck to the tarmac. No vibes across the rev range at all. Stick it in 5th at 30 and just hang on. I have to admit it is one of the best handling bikes ive ridden. Could i pick it up if i dropped it? i doubt it very much. Only had 2 hours on it as another person had booked a test ride as well.
Tomorrow ive got a test ride booked with Honda for a Monkey bike and a Grom.
It's a cheap way to have fun. Shame some dealers have banned me from test rides. Think they got fed up with me not buying bikes from them.

When my local Harley dealer opened about 20 years ago the Buell demo bikes were so under utilised that they used to ask me to take them for a few days to run them in. Times change.....

Monkey and grom bikes test rides were fun. Can't see the attraction of the grom, just too much cheap plastic and a strange sitting position. On the other hand, the Monkey was great and much better quality just like Honda's of days gone by. Nice big seat. Seeing they both have the same engine, the Monkey seemed faster and handled much better. May buy a monkey, just for the fun of it.

I went to look at a W reg Puch Maxi today as an excuse to get some miles on a bike I'm running in after a top end conversion. I'm on the look out for an old two stroke but everyone seems to think they can charge a gold pig for something your dad would have put out by the bins for the scrapman.

There's one in the next village to me on the bay at the moment that started at £300 but no doubt the nostalgia scalpers will have seen it by now. :| A nice ride down some country lanes though, very pleasant. ;)

My mate Had a Puch Maxi. He was able to keep up with my Fizzy. As he lived on the 12th floor here used to that it up in the lift. Life was so simply back then.

Finally took care of following things:

1. Installed Wunderlich hand guards 27520-303

https://www.wunderlich.de/shop/en/wunde ... 0-303.html

Otherwise OK but right side bracket was in contact with brake reservoir and had to grind it several times to make it fit.

Bigger problem is that with the hand guards on you cannot see shit from the RT mirrors. At no point did Wunderlich mention this and/or there is no mentioning of this in the product info. And I specifically asked if these fit RT. Well, they do but...

2. Installed Chinese footrest lowering kit

They are copy of Wunderlich 31410-001
https://www.wunderlich.de/shop/en/bmw-r ... 0-001.html

These needed slight adjustment but went on quite well eventually. Haven't tested them yet but seems OK when sitting on the bike.

3. Installed Wunderlich quick connect kit for GPS power
https://www.wunderlich.de/shop/en/bmw-r ... 6-400.html

This too went on quite nicely. Now the "cockpit" is tidy and nice.

I bought one from a supermarket noticeboard for £50 quid in the 90's and didn't take it seriously enough. it ended up as a field bike and I sort of regret what happened to it.
Daft I know

Well, after I got the RT sorted we went for a short ride to get coffee some 80 kilometers away. I was on RT and my buddy on his Suzuki.

Ride there went OK but on our way back I noticed that my hips were starting to cause problems. After a while problem changed to considerable pain which made me drop a leg at the time off from peg. As usual this helped for a while but I noticed that I needed to do this more and more often. Luckily I got back home before it got really bad.

WTF? My std seat is in the highest position and now I have the peg lowering kit there - and I still get the pain.

I had no plans to even consider trading the RT for another bike but if this pain thing should be the "new norm" do I really need to start looking at GS? :?:

In general I have no problems with my hips or knees so this is definitely RT related.

Shiiiiit...
