Well, at least it shouldn't fall to bits, the glue is from Germany.

"Glue from Germany" & "Steel from Toyota".... Do these thing really need changing every 6k miles?!?! Give it a coat of Ronseal before fitting and they'll be good for 5 years protection! It'll do exactly as it says on the tin

With 3 different filter paper suppliers, how would they know where it came from when the filter fails.

The manufacturer who "assembled" the oil filter is clearly marked on the outside.

Perhaps the Insured Warranty Policy Handbook T&C's should be looked at, as they are misleading.

"Following contact from our Claims team, I’ve sought further advice from our General Warranty Claims Manager regarding your query.

He has advised that using a hi-flo oil filter will not affect your warranty in any way, and this part is of equivalent quality to an OEM filter.
Our General Warranty Claims Manager has no issue with you using this part as part of your routine service maintenance."

Have asked for confirmation that Mahle oil filters can also be used, standby.

Good on you but why would you not use the OEM one when With a bit of discount it's not much different in price.  And if a dealer is doing the service there is nothing better to wind them up with than walking in with your own service bits.

Two Mahle or Hiflo oil filters can be purchased for the price of one BMW OEM oil filter.

So MAHLE & Hi Flo oil filters  "are" of equivalent quality to the OEM BMW branded oil filter. Just goes to show how much of a premium some people will pay to to have the OEM once they've been brainwashed into believing they're better, That BMW logo on the filter under the engine out of site does look nice though  8)

Cooper BMW Sunderland have confirmed that they would be happy to fit a non-OEM oil filter & agreed that alternatives can be used, providing they are of equivalent specification.

And I'm sure the time it takes them to fit it will be exactly the same as if they had sold you the filter as part of the service charge.

BMW charge £84.96 for 4 litres of oil plus an oil filter, having paid £43.31 for a higher spec. oil plus an equivalent spec. oil filter, that's a saving of £41.65 towards the labour cost.

Sounds very reasonable.  Won't take much to add on 30 mins labour. 

Have been quoted 10 minutes labour to do an oil & filter change at a cost of £17.45.

This comment just goes to show you can never trust anyone from  BMW.

Or any establishment you go in asking them for their  services but carrying all the items they would normally provide you with to do it. That's how the world works.

On all BMW service invoices, parts & labour costs are itemized separately.

The labour costs are fixed, (hence the service codes),  irrespective of where the parts appear from.

Have now got the labour only costs for various service items. The time (AW) for each job should be the same across the BMW network.
