Hi Mike, Markus & I are currently looking at heading south from Teesside to Chesterfield on Thursday 29th and riding back to Thirsk on Friday.
If you do decide to stop over somewhere, please keep me posted. Depending on your route and the weather, could easily change our plans and head north to meet up with you.
Thank you, David.
Hi David
I have just booked the Premier Inn at Alnwick, NE66 2PF on Thursday 29th and have changed my Thirsk reservation from the Fourways Guesthouse to The Old Oak Tree, South Kilvington, YO7 2NL. My awareness of UK geography outside of my local area is rubbish but The Old Oak Tree gets a 9.4 rating, has great parking, a bar & restaurant and looks pretty good.
Would be great to meet up with folks on the journey south if practical and possible.
Thank you.
Mike

Alnwick is 1 hr 20 min (fastest time) away from home, wouldn't need an overnight stay but has the potential for a meet up on Friday 30th to ride back to South Kilvington (Thirsk). Once known, if you would like to share your route for Friday, it would help Markus & I decide what to do.
It's some years ago but have used the restaurant at the Old Oak Tree and if the same, would recommend it.

Hi Mike,
Just a heads up that the Old Oak is a bit of a schlep from the Fleece. I'd looked at staying there too because it does look nice but it's a 30min walk out of town. Maybe that's nothing to a Scotsman but just thought I'd let you know

Hi David (and Markus)
My route for Friday 30th from Alnwick would be A1 to A167 to A184 and on to A19 to Thirsk according to AA Route Planner

You could take the B roads, less traffic and possibly more to see, just an example

Hi Orca
Excuse my ignorance but what's the significance of the Golden Fleece if I can ask? Is that a meeting point or dinner Friday evening or ?? I'm not sure of the itinerary so any info is much appreciated.
Thank you.
Mike

I believe that's where most folk are staying, with the next biggest continent a stone's throw away at Fourways. Very close by is a Wetherspoons and other watering holes. The Golden Fleece and Fourways seem perfectly situated amongst this bustling metropolis!

Thank you for the clarification. I have now moved my accommodation to the Golden Fleece and hopefully it's a good move

Hi Lochiesdad.
As a rule we meet at a central hotel so that everyone can socialise on the Friday evening and then a meal at the hotel or somewhere walking distance.
The hotel is the departure point for the Saturday ride out.
On the Saturday night we normally have a couple of drinks in the bar and then out for a meal again.
Sunday morning is breakfast and depart for home.
Nobody is under pressure to meet for drinks in the bar or even to dine together, we just try and make it a social event, make friends and arrange future meets.
regards
Michael

Here is another example, again, mainly on B roads.

Thank you very much for the route options. I am inclined to stay with main routes as my geography is on the wrong side of rubbish and far too dependant on Google Maps these days.....getting older is no fun

If Markus & I did join you, would you consider following me with Markus behind you, it's your choice.

In the past, have attended a wedding, reception and stayed overnight at the Golden Fleece.
