Tyre choice is obviously a personal thing, most importantly, you have to have confidence in what you fit. They are not on the BMW "approved list".k9doc wrote:Avon Storm 2 Ultra.
Have used these tyres and their predecessors for years, Azarro, ST and have always had confidence (main consideration IMO) in both wet and dry. Never taken note of how long they last but they certainly do the job.
Not the most popular choice I admit and probably not on the 'approved list'.

Re: Alternative 'Northern Monkeys' June Meet 2017
I wonder what criteria are used to achieve that status. Would they be the same ones that are fulfilled by the suppliers of duff switch gear, paint, suspension components and going back a few years, ring antennae and fuel pump controllers. I suspect the main criterion is $$$ kerching! or am I being disloyal?David. wrote: Tyre choice is obviously a personal thing, most importantly, you have to have confidence in what you fit. Just seen the poll over in the other thread. It would seem that I'm in a minority. Still, resisted having 'flares' until it was impossible to buy trousers with straight legs. Anyone else remember flares? 8)

Flares. Sea Dogs. Oxford Bags. Tonics. 501's. Trouser evolution. Still in the 501's (not originals)k9doc wrote: Just seen the poll over in the other thread. It would seem that I'm in a minority. Bet you never had an 'Adam Adamant' jacket or a swallow-tailed parka (the real deal). Just called Levis when I had them. Went with the desert boots with orange (or sometimes purple) laces. Good days, mates all had scooters.Mike wrote: Flares. Sea Dogs. Oxford Bags. Tonics. 501's. Trouser evolution. Still in the 501's (not originals)

Mmmmh. Never got the mod thing. Although I was looking at one of those Stripped down skeleton hairdryers the other day - still don't get it. Mind you, they always had smart girls. Must have been the DMs and feather cutsk9doc wrote: Bet you never had an 'Adam Adamant' jacket or a swallow-tailed parka (the real deal). Just called Levis when I had them. Paul Weller et al fair bit younger than me. Kipper ties, 'hipsters' and the scoots weren't stripped down but loaded up with mirrors and luggage racks. Lambretta TV 175 was the steed of choice.Mike wrote: Mmmmh. Never got the mod thing. Although I was looking at one of those Stripped down skeleton hairdryers the other day - still don't get it. This may prove to be a useful resource for event planning. Maybe it could be made into a 'sticky' for 'Meetings and Get Together'.

At this stage Saturday is looking a bit iffy but we all know things can change. Would a change to Sunday make life difficult for anyone (just in case)?

Not for me, I'm available both Saturday & Sunday. Let's aim for Saturday & take it from there. Would obviously prefer the best day weather-wise.k9doc wrote:Would a change to Sunday make life difficult for anyone.

The forecast is now looking good for Saturday, with showers on Sunday! https://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/2634217k9doc wrote:At this stage Saturday is looking a bit iffy but we all know things can change.

Agreed, Saturday now looking better than Sunday. However could still get showers (30-40% chance) nearer the coast in the afternoon, but a dry start from Wetherby. I could live with that. As we all know, forecast should be more accurate the closer we get.

Could always head in the opposite direction to the Yorkshire Dales.k9doc wrote:However could still get showers (30-40% chance) nearer the coast in the afternoon, but a dry start from Wetherby.

Re: Alternative 'Northern Monkeys' June Meet 2017
Not a bad idea as weather looks better at the moment. Could change though but not worried about a shower or two in any event.
How's about this; 159 miles 4hrs 32 mins exc stops.
Basically Dentdale on a mix of roads.
Any other opinions?

Possibly a little too ambitious & not keen on the A65/A59 from Settle towards Harrogate.k9doc wrote:How's about this; 159 miles 4hrs 32 mins exc stops.
How about this, 153.8 miles in 4 hrs 2 mins, the destination is Hawes, with a stop each way in Grassington.k9doc wrote:Any other opinions?

Re: Alternative 'Northern Monkeys' June Meet 2017
Looks a nice route other than the A659 for Otley and Knaresborough on a Saturday afternoon. Happy enough to stick with Plan A personally. Also suspect likely to be less traffic. But hey a ride is a ride.
