Hello guys,
I have been away a trip on the RT up the West Coast of Scotland.
The bike was running poorly at cold start up, unable to stop her stalling until about 5/10 minutes of ride time.
This is a new problem, only changes is the air temperature is a litle colder and also I did a very intensive clean when returning from my European trip, proding about with little brushes and stuff so I may possibly have upset a plug or sensor!!
The bike wants to idle at 800rpm from cold before stalling.
Im not very mechanical minded so would appreciate some opinions on the subject
Chris...
RT1200 not idling from cold
Re: RT1200 not idling from cold
Possibly one of the coils. When hot they will run on 3 plugs. You will need to get it plugged in to find out.
Re: RT1200 not idling from cold
Chris, Ive had 3 RTs and they have always idled at around 1000 rpm/1100rpm When cold maybe a little higher for a minute or so.
What mileage has it done ?? What I tend to do is fire it up then put helmet and gloves on so its ticking over for maybe a minute.
Mines only done 6000 miles and you can feel the engine is still tight, but I think yours is idling a little low.
A mate of mine had a similar problem on a new RT BM couldn't find the fault, in the end it was a lambar sensor but it didn't show up on BM computer.
It was a old style mechanic who sorted it in a matter of minutes Bloody technology !!!
