hi everyone im thinking of buying a 2005 or 2006 rt1200 are there any things I should be looking for when buying thanks

Service history is always a No1 seller for me, especially main dealer serving when it comes to things like servos and ABS pumps etc. Condition - a sure sign for me if a bike has been loved is the lack of corrosion on bolt heads etc, which they do seem susceptible to if care not taken.

Yep, service history is everything but in early 2007 the servo brakes we dumped.  They dont go wrong very often but if they do its normally a very expensive fix.

Agreed, the 2012 (3K miles) RT I bought recently was not in as good and clean condition as the 2010 (38K miles) one I part-ex'd.

Some of the front engine casing & final drive unit bolt heads were corroded, now treated with ACF-50.

The brake calipers & pads were filthy, they required a good clean out.

A Dealer service history allows you to trace back what "they say" has been done & when.

I agree with RT man10, If that servo goes wrong ,very expensive to fix probably 50% of bikes value. I think 2007 on is the way to go.

Service history is a must BUT having said that its only as good as the mechanic.  Ive lost a lot of faith in dealers and I now go to a independent garage, they have the diagnostics, are about half the price, you can stand and watch if you want.

Its not in their interest not to do the servicing as laid down because if word got round they would loose customers.  BMW dealers are working flat out, mechanics are to time scales re jobs so to make up time the mechanic  "misses certain tasks"  I know for a fact that the tappets on my old one weren't  checked every 6000 even though it was part of the service.

I once had the bike handed back showing a fault, by the time Id got my helmet/ gloves on and fired it up the shutters were down and the place was locked up. I complained the next day , the service manager knew exactly what it was and how much it would be (that rings bells) BUT couldn't do it for 3 weeks because they were so busy. >:(  That's a main dealer, Ive never been back and wouldn't even buy a bolt off them

Well that's me had a rant  ;D ;D  Oh by the way that service cost me £455

I reckon theres some good dealers out there, I can only really comment on the experience Ive had with one dealer

My current bike was from up North and Ive invoices from Coopers of Sunderland and I must say they are a lot cheaper than the dealer I used to use

. Unfortunately its a bit far for me to go for a service so Im going to stick with independent.

I bought a new bike from Jeffries at Shipley (that F800 I couldn't get on with) and I must admit they were good and Ive heard some good reports off other people re their servicing.

My son has a 2012 R1200R ( bought 2nd hand from them ) and he goes there and they have been very good.

Avoid pre-2007 R1200RTs.  They have the weird servo brakes to be avoided.

From 2007 on the  brakes are fine.

Hello Gang, Just bought a 2005 1200 RT and Love it. Just had 7000
mile Service and Put New 2 New GS Mirrors On it. Used Amsoil 20-50
for Motor.
Mayhaw20
