Having removed the Tax Discs from my Vehicles on 1st October 2014, this GOV.UK Vehicle enquiry can be used to check Tax & MOT details, https://www.vehicleenquiry.service.gov.uk/.

A very useful link, quite amusing if you type in the incorrect registration.

Interesting if you look up some vehicles you have previously owned, I found a Honda VFR which was "Written Off" but now back on the road.

I found myself going back over all my bikes in the last 40 yrs !!

Iv spent most of the afternoon trying to remember reg numbers. That's called retired a long time.

Looks like the DVLA are not infallible, got a letter from them today, "WARNING your Vehicle is NOT Taxed".

I MUST immediately Tax or SORN it & Pay £33.33 arrears.

The Bike was Taxed by myself in October to allow the Cherished Number Plate transfer to go ahead, on completion the Bike was SORN'd.

Having spoken to the DVLA, they have agreed to re-instate the SORN status FOC & I have advised them that I intend to Tax the Bike on 1st April.

It will be interesting using the link to check the change in the DVLA status which is currently showing "Untaxed" to "SORN'd" over the next few days.

Interestingly having remembered where I had  a pile of old tax discs I discoverer that most of my RTs from the 90s and early 2000 seem to no longer exist.  But a 1994 Yamaha 600 Diversion is still taxed and MOT'd. And I thought it was worn out when I sold it in 1996.

The DVLA have just phoned, their records have been updated & the Bike is now showing as "SORN'd".

They have admitted & apologised for a system error at their end, which has now been rectified.

RT Taxed today (1st April),  still showing as SORN'd, GOV.UK say,

"Please be aware that if you have taxed, made a SORN or had an MOT in the last 5 days these details may not have updated."

As last year (see above),  taxed the RT yesterday 1st April 2016, but still showing as SORN'ed on the GOV.UK site.

Best keep my Post Office receipt handy, I wonder what happens with any ANPR systems for checking vehicle tax.

Do it on line and it shows within 24 hrs.nd you have an instant Email confirming it's taxed.
