Tyre Icon on Dash
Tyre Icon on Dash
Has anybody had the tyre Icon come up on the dash but the tyre pressures are OK. This is on a 2008 RT. Think there are batteries in the sensors so after 8 yrs this might be the reason.
Re: Tyre Icon on Dash
Batteries in the sensors? My understanding is that TPMS works through the ABS sensors. (The sensors monitor the revolutions of each wheel which in turn is monitored by the computer. A drop in tyre pressure results in that particular wheel rotating slighty more frequently than the other and thus calculated by the computer as a reduced tire pressure). I would guess therefore that the ABS sensor is on its way out.
Re: Tyre Icon on Dash
No nothing to do with the ABS. The sensors are in the rims held in place by the valve stem. I'm pretty sure there is a battery in each one but have no idea of their life. They talk to the reader which is in the alarm unit.

BMW R1200RT Tire Pressure Monitor Battery Replacement, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mpjz0cDjnK4
Page 42 of this Rider's Manual http://www.kali.hu/motor/bmw-r1200rt/le ... l_2008.pdf, suggests a "Battery Symbol" should appear if the Battery is weak.
Looks & sounds like after 7 years, the Battery could well need replacing, http://forums.bmwmoa.org/showthread.php ... or-Battery.
This video is for a car, but must be similar on a bike, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y04gARDiZx4.
RealOEM doesn't list replacement batteries, new sensors sound expensive, http://www.realoem.com/bmw/partgrp.do?m ... g=36&fg=23,
think I'll stick to my Halfords tyre pressure gauge £5.99, http://www.halfords.com/motoring-travel ... sure-gauge
