Hi Folks. New to this forum. Long time rt owner and just traded an 09 with 38k on it for a 13 plate 90special edition.
I have always paid for the extended warranty after the two years and stuck to Bmw own policy. I was lucky and had the rear shock fail just within the maximum mileage clause and it was replaced without quibble . The question I have is, does anyone use something else?
The European breakdown cover is just as important but most on line policies don't feel as if they would cover as adequatley as the excellent bmw one, granted at a premium price.

My RT was new in Jan 13.  I had always intended to extend the warranty once the initial two years was up - but not at almost £400!!  I have decided to put £400 a year aside and, if I have any issues, will have a fund I can put towards repairs. 

Knock off the Emergency Assistance cover and opt for a bit of access and the BMW cover looks a lot more attractive.  And of course if you do get any major failure you are guaranteed a repair at a BMW dealer.    That rear shock mentioned cost well into 4 figures if its ESA.
Dint think its available ii its not taken out at the 2 year old point though.

I don't recall being given any options to vary the coverage.  It was a set cover for a set price.  Too late for me now anyway - the original warranty expired in Jan this year. 

Got a Quote from BMW Warranty Services.

£361 with £0 Excess, £332 with £50 Excess or £307 with £100 Excess + £27 for Breakdown Cover.

The Warranty can be renewed even if there has been a break in cover.

Set up a BMW Warranty inc. Emergency Service today to commence on 1st April 2016 at a cost of £33.06 per month with a £100 Excess.

That seems expensive with the £100 excess.  Do they add a bit on for paying monthly.

I'd imagine it would be more expensive monthly, insurance usually is, but if your only going to use you bike for 7/8 months of the year!

In September 2015, (with £100 Excess),  I was quoted £348 for an Annual Warranty inc. Emergency Service or £32 per Month (x12 = £384),  so yes it's £40 more for 12 Months.

The reason I've gone for a Monthly payment is that I only want cover for 7 Months, (Apr - Oct).

If you take out an Annual Policy & pay the full amount upfront, you can cancel it with a £25 admin fee & get a pro rata refund.

At £348 per Year, that's £29 per Month, £3 less than the Monthly payment, but over 7 Months, £21 is £4 less than the £25 admin fee, plus the capital remains in the bank.

That made my head hurt a bit.  Think I will just go the annual in April when mine gets to 2

With the example given above, the break even point would be 8 Months, (not including loss of interest on the capital withdrawn from the bank).

After 9 or more Months, paying upfront in full & cancelling if necessary would be the way to go.

As my bike is slightly older than my last one I decided to go for the BMW Warranty.

Hopefully nothing will go wrong but I at least will have some peace of mind.

For the same reason, I took the Warranty on my 2012 RT.

It would be nice to ride around on a new LC RT with a 2 Year Warranty, but I prefer the TC, therefore, IMO, it's the next best thing for me.
