I have the 6,000 mile service coming up in a few weeks.  What am I looking at in terms of cost?

There are set times for servicing laid down by BMW. Unfortunately there is no set hourly rate. As you live near London only your dealer can give you a quote.

Sorry I read the question as being one for the community i.e. How much did the last person pay for a 6000 mile service. I know that on my Tiger XC I travelled 80+ miles for a service because he was significantly lower.

My gut instincts would be dealers like Cannon in Braintree who have a captured audience with no other competition would be expensive as are their bikes, but I maybe wrong.

I suppose it's a matter of where you live really, I would imagine Williams Motorcycles in Manchester and Pidcocks may be fair in their prices.

I just paid 190€ for a 50,000 miles service on a Citroen C4. I would not even guess at how much a service with that mileage would cost with an RTLCnot

But what about the warranty?

My understanding is that if you use BMW parts and do the work according to the BMW service schedule then you can do the service without affecting the warranty under EU law. If you phone BMW they will say you cannot, unless you are a VAT registered garage. This is not correct. The Americans have it easier they had a law suit and its no problem doing self service. I'm doing my service but have taken time to record everything. I have used BMW parts, have receipts and have taken photos date stamped of the service. I have also taken the bike to BMW to have the diagnostic check which is an item I cannot do. I have done the 6000 and 12000 mile service. Just for information the valves were perfect at 12K.

Professionally I sit at a desk and therefore actually enjoy waving spanners at a bike as a form of antidote.  However, at this stage I want to maintain the bike's BMW service history.

Totally understand. Just read your original post and nobody has actually answered it. The 6000 miles service is an engine oil and filter change and a list of check items. Allow an hour labour plus parts. From other forums I gather people are paying £160 to £180. If the bike is year old then BMW will want to changed brake fluids, it will then be changed every 2 years.

MEM62. Why don't you just ask your dealer, or did your bike not come directly from one.

Booked mine in for it's first 6k service today and quoted £217 for Oil, filter, fluids, diagnostic check and general healthcheck.
This by North Oxford BMW.

They must be charging you for breaking the seal on the oil container, that is bloody expensive >:D

I will but I want a comparison based on the experience of forum members.

Mmm! isn't that what you asked in the beginning, it must be the sun and the heat as the forum is generally quite helpful.  Sorry I can't help.

I had about 2300 miles on the bike before I left for out west this summer. I changed the oil and filter before I left. I  changed it again when I got home when we got back with about 8800 miles on the clock. I also changed the final drive oil.

I took the bike to the dealer in Asheville NC (Eurosports BMW) today to do the 6000 mile service. I did not want to do it on the road while on vacation . They changed the break fluid and did all the other things associated with the 6000 service except for the oil and final drive that i had already completed. They did a computer upgrade that is supposed to help the shifting.

Rear brakes and tires are fine after 9100 miles.
Cost for the service was $121.00. I thought that very reasonable. They are a great bunch to do business with.

Had a great ride over there by way of the Blue Ridge Parkway. The ride home sucked, torrential rain for two hours.
