91 octane rating fuel

I was using 91 oct. fuel in my 2014 r1200rt and getting fuel efficiencys of 21.2 ks/Litre or 60mpg(imperial) no significant pinging unless pushed in a higher gear. It was suggested I should be using at minimum 95 oct. fuel. So next tank was filled with 98 oct fuel with a drop off in efficiency it now produced 19 ks/Ltr or 54mpg. A significant drop in efficiency. Any thoughts.

No, but I get about 55 mpg out of 91. On my older RTs they did seem to run smoother on 95. Iv not tried it on my LC

The recommended fuel grade for an LC is, Super unleaded (max. 10 % ethanol, E10) 95 RON.

Alternative fuel grade

Regular unleaded (Power- and consumption-related restrictions. If e.g. the engine is to be operated in countries with low fuel grades at 91 research octane number, then the motorcycle must first be programmed appropriately at your authorised BMW motorcycle dealer.) (max. 10 % ethanol, E10) 91 RON.

Your not wrong.  I just always go to the cheapest pump.  Must have a look when I next fill up and check what I'm putting in. Come to think about it, it was 98 I used to use in my earlier bikes.  Back to bed

In the UK, the minimum octane rating is 95 RON.

As you say, pre-LC 1200 RT's require 98, although 95 can be used if necessary.

(As per the OP, 91 RON is available in Australia.)
