I'm proud to have been part of this great industry for 25 years.
A sad day

Re: The end of an era
The dignity and pride of these guys at the pit head today was humbling. :grave:
Having worked in diving and now heavy engineering in the oil industry for over 30 years, I could almost feel the camaraderie between them through the TV screen. I know that sounds strange but anyone who worked in close knit teams in unforgiving environments will know what I mean...

Re: The end of an era
Aye Smileymiley I had the privilege to have worked in a close nit team bonded environment for the biggest part of my adult life. As a Welshman living in the valleys of Wales I believed my future had been mapped from the start: go to school and play rugby, leave school play rugby work in the mines, etc Fortunately or some may say unfortunately the mines closed and took away a whole tradition and culture. The time I spend underground was like working in a family environment working alongside people you grew up with and saw every day of the week is something really really special. Very much like the soldiers I later shared my life with they would too would put their life on the line for you with no hesitation.
